SHINE **SPOILER** Post

You know what’s worse than a big, wooden splinter in the side of your thumb? Getting a book spoiled by something you read on Twitter.

I’ve flat out refused to read books because of spoilers I've unintentionally read on Twitter. It’s infuriating. But no worries, peeps!  We've got a post for that.

We’re providing a spot for fans to come and talk to other fans about the _____ and _____ that happens in SHINE. (not to mention that crazy _____ part!)  This is an unstructured post that allows you to chat about whatever you want, whenever you want.  Comments are hidden after the break so those of you that haven’t yet read SHINE can avoid this post like it’s obsidian.  (OK, never mind.  That analogy only works if you’re a ghost.) Just avoid this post if you’ve not read SHINE, okay?

Oh! And just so you know… disrespectful posts will be deleted and burned along with the leftover ZOGAN cards.

P.S. IF YOU GO ANY FURTHER IN THIS POST YOU WILL BE SPOILED

P.S.S. REALLY.  DO NOT GO ANY FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED.

P.S.S.S FOR REAL, YO!

THIS IS YOUR LAST WARNING!
You're about to be spoiled.

  1. So does that mean I can finally discuss the giant purple dinosaur that Logan comes riding in on? :)

  2. A WHOLE POST JUST FOR SPOILERS - YAYYY!!!! I really need to tell someone that the whole shoelace thing about ended me. I can't look at shoelaces anywhere without getting teary. To know Z & L had that connection is just amazing. Okay, I feel better now.

    1. This is the exact moment I was referring to in my teaser post on FD. I had to cry into a pillow to muffle the primitive sounds that were coming out of my mouth. I think we've interacted and connected with the characters in such a way that it feels like it's our real life friends we're reading about, you know?

    2. So glad you brought that up, because I thought the same thing. Between reading & loving these books to interacting with them on twitter, it did feel like I was reading about people I knew. Shine has so many references to things that have come up in twitter convos that you can't help but smile.

    3. IKR I was a mess and had to take a moment after the Hill of Tara. I was one big emotional tear.

  3. YES to the shoelace thing. I think I cried most during that moment. Though my heart was breaking, getting put back together, only to break again for Aura most of the series.... it was the connection between Logan & Zachary that just did me in. Good lord I love those boys.

  4. And DUDES! Was anyone else shocked to find out that Z still had his V card? I'm pretty sure I gasped out loud.

  5. yeah shoelace omg. it about killed me too!! and yeah i was totally not expecting that from zachary either. i might have had my mouth drop open in surprise when i read that. never would have thought i could have loved zachary anymore but this book, *sigh*

  6. Heart broke at the shoelaces and *the* night? I was so touched by the way that Jeri wrote it, it was so beautiful and so appropriate and I just loved everything about it!

    1. Completely brilliant. I've never read a better scene about *the first time* before. Very tender and sweet.

  7. To be honest.. I wasn't that shocked when it was revealed that Zachary was still a virgin. I don't know.. I guess I never thought about it before? I know Jeri never told us flat out in previous books.. just that looming maybe, maybe not? but I didn't assume one way or the other. I do think though that it added to the moment that it was BOTH their first times.

Also.. totally did not know that about being on your side!! hahahaha Oh Zachary, leave it to him to think of those things.

    1. RIGHT? I wonder how much research went into THAT scene, lol! *contemplates not publishing comment* *publishes anyway*

  8. Yay!!! I've been dying to talk to someone! The shoelace scene is making me cry even at this moment! Also, when the Keeleys are at the cemetery. When Aura was crying on the ground and Mickey came and sang to her. My heart hurts just thinking about it. Oh...Dylan and Megan??!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Ahh...I feel slightly better now.

    1. Oh, I'd forgotten about that scene!!! So heartbreaking.

  9. Oh yeah, Andrea, the cemetery scene w/Mickey was an ugly cry moment for me. Even though there's no physical (in the ghostly sense) Logan IN this book, he's everywhere in it at the same time. It's amazing how much these characters have grown and changed since the beginning of Shade.

    1. I love Logan so much. His spirit was so strong throughout Shine. I really feel sorry for those who won't read Shine b/c he's gone. They've missed out, b/c he is very much a part of the story.

And his letter, via Dylan? Good grief, I'm crying again.

    2. That letter was another ugly cry moment for me. LOL Logan is such a beautiful character, and that passage shows it. I love that he calls Z Bagpipes! XD

  10. Almost forgot - about Z's V card, I don't think I was surprised. I'm not sure if that's based on the other two books or SHADEboys chats, but I suspected he wasn't *that* experienced. I was still impressed to find out that he was a virgin & thought it was nice for them to have that first together.

    1. I seem to be in the minority here. Hmmm. I guess I thought he was because of Aura's thoughts of him with Susanna. Plus he REALLY made it sound like he was, uh, experienced during the scene in SHIFT where he & Logan meet with Aura and Megan. He and Megan snicker about his comment (or a note?) to Megan about how much "stuff" you could do in 17 minutes of time. I'll find the page number when I get home.

    2. OK, found the part in SHIFT I was referring to in this comment. It's page 138 in the paperback version (halfway through chapter 11).

    3. I guess I thought he was just trying to talk big? IDK He's experienced for sure. :)

  11. My heart was breaking during pretty much the whole book, starting from the beginning and the plane crash. I knew in my heart Zach wasn't gone, but OMG the way Jeri wrote it I started to doubt it just a little bit. And then to find out the reason that Z wasn't on the plane was because of Logan! *cries* Also, I don't think I've read a more beautiful "losing your virginity" scene.

I've always loved all three characters, but I love them even more after finishing this book.

    1. I agree - when I found out Logan was who detained Zachary, from that moment on their whole relationship changed. The bits & pieces that are revealed throughout make you wonder what exactly was said in that airport. Maybe once Shattered is out we'll know. *crosses fingers*

  12. So many "spank my booty and call me Judy" moments in this book! This whole book... Shine- the Shade Trilogy was a whole wonder of amazement to me. Thank the lawd I was prepared for the whole flight thing, cuz I'd seriously be bald right now. Actually, I became dehydrated and had to consume loads of gatorade from all the crying. But with that crying, also came a load of peace and there were beautiful moments.

So here are my spoiler moments that had me kicking and screaming or had me smiling in adoration: My first punch gut moment was while Zachary was trapped, basically as a lab rat. Next, I really wanted to drop kick a 14 y/o, but I was glad for her info on Z&L. Simon is the shit! (I need to update my review to include him- shame on me for originally leaving him out.)And I'm thankful for Nicola. The Keeley's helping Aura save Zach warmed my heart and I liked to crapped my pants at the break ups. Becca made her appearance, ugh! I had a barbie bitch-slap moment. Shades entering Aura, whoa! Loved the chats!! Maaaaartin!!DMP making post shifters register with them at age 18, WTF!! When Aura and Z were finally in each other's arms in Dublin, and the CASTLE- OMG, so perfect and so real- so, so complete!. (I'm w/ G- I really never thought about whether Z was or wasn't a virgin.) The moment w/ the sun turning violet at Newgrange was stated beautifully. When the shade's darkness entered Aura and didn't leave, I had the shakes and was in dyer need of a nerve pill. And the Children of the Sun Cult-- caaaaaa-reepy! #InTheShower oh my - and when Z finally exposed his feelings about being trapped and lonely, my chest ached so hard, then what Aura did for him afterwards -hellllllo baby! I had no skin on my inner cheeks by the time I got through reading Nighthawk and the pub scene. OMG, the notebook Dylan gave Aura to finish reading and the shoelaces as you all mentioned above- son of a biscuit eater, wow- just wow. @Andrea-- IKR!!! Dylan and Megan-- holy shizzzzzbuckets- another Dylan shock moment, but I love it. Hope it works out for them and I hope Mickey can find someone. God Andrea, and yes- that cemetery scene made my heart lurch from my chest.

    1. Lol! I'm imagining you typing this w/out taking a breath! I was wondering what was up w/Dyan and Megan b/c of the bickering. I was getting a flirtatious vibe. I love those two!

My heart still hurts from the cemetery scene.

    2. Hahahaha Andrea.... in our short term of conversing, you know me so well!

I wonder if we'll ever find out what Micky thinks of Megan and Dylan. Guess that can be a question for Jeri at Team Kilt Con.

Jeri sure does know how to make us feel so much emotion in her writing. Such a wonderful thing, whether it's happy or/and moments. Makes it feel so real.

  13. I like Dylan & Megan together - they're adorable! I've also realized I have a strange obsession with Mickey & his brooding. LOL

  14. I've been so distracted by all the emotion of this book that I almost forgot- who loved how they found out about the Shift ending? THANK YOU, THANK YOU, Jeri, for not making it an abracadabra all is magically fixed moment. I was initially disappointed when they thought they'd failed, and that made it so much sweeter when they found out they'd actually succeeded. Brilliant!

    1. I thought that how Aura figured it out was pure genius. I gotta say, as a Philly girl who knows that airport intimately, it made me miss home AND love SHINE, Aura, Zach & Logan more. I wanted to cuddle my dang Kindle when I went to bed. This makes me feel not normal but I know you were all thinking the same thing of your copies. That whole last chapter was a great closing to an amazeballs series.

  15. I don't think there's anything left to say except We love you ALL.

Newgrange was magical, Hill of Tara was emotional. Zach telling Aura what happened to him was heart wrenching, witnessing Megan and Mickeys relationship disintergrate was heart breaking, Aura and Zach! well that just made me tingle and happy all over and Logan, as always you made me cry. Finally, this New Year Eve, I'm off up to Glasgow.

  16. And Aura... I'm so glad she has peace --she's been through a heck of a journey in the Shade Trilogy. She endures a beautiful strength.

  17. Tiny thing but I really liked when they crossed the border to Northern Ireland and the texts arrived. There are a few little just-so-right details in there in the Irish bits that confirm that JSR has done her research. (Apart from referring to 'Gaelic' when she means 'Irish', ack.)

LOVED Zach and Aura's first time, the Newgrange bits, the Dylan/Megan stuff going on in the background, the road trip with the Keeleys, all the Logan bits. And the ending. So good. Just so darn good.

    1. I LOVED the humor throughout this book. I'm gonna have to go pick up my copy of Shine to get some specific lines, but I found myself LOL at Zach a lot in this book. Especially when he's talking about thinking about Aura in the shower.;)

  19. The shoelace thing was great! (Especially because I have a pair of shoes with bright blue shoelaces. :D) I still can't believe that Zach and Logan got along that well after everything between them. And oh my God Logan's journal entry at the end?? I couldn't stop smiling! I was in lunch when I read that part and I literally went "Awwwwwww" out loud. As for the night, quite a few surprises there. (Ok, really just the big one: Zach was still a virgin?!?!) What really struck me with that scene was how well written it was though. It wasn't just a couple of teenagers having sex, it wasn't just lust, and it wasn't casually skipped over like other YA books have the tendency to do. It was beatiful and eloquent and touching and just all around perfect. It was Aura and Zach. One last thing to mention before I pass out from exhaustion, who else thought Megan's playlist ideas were the coolest and most hilarious thing ever?
